My House Stinks!!

Pork Roast cooked in Sauerkraut all day, garlic mashed potatoes, peas and biscuits.

...but dinner sure tasted good. This is one of Chris's favorite meals. His grandmother used to make it every New Years Day. She made a much bigger meal then we did. Chris's mom took over the tradition. We weren't able to have dinner with them this New Years Day. (Chris did get some left over Sauerkraut for Good Luck!) Chris and I made it for dinner last night. I don't eat Sauerkraut but I love how the pork roast tastes after it has cooked in it all day long.

More Snow!!

These pictures were taken out out dinning room window this afternoon. Keep in mind that the fence is 4 feet tall.

It's winter in New York
and the gentle breezes blow
seventy miles an hour
at twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love New York
when the snow's up to your butt
you take a breath of winter
and your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
so I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave New York
cause I'm frozen to the ground.

Sickly!

I got a cold or so I thought. I didn't feel real well over the weekend, but I didn't think much of it since everyone at work seemed to sound and feel like me. Monday night I hardly got any sleep, (neither did my poor hubby!) so I called into work for Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon I decided maybe I should go to the Doctor.

I went to the Doctor today. Today was my day off, so I didn't miss work today. I have Sinusitis and the start of Bronchitis. My Doctor put me on the Z-pack and took me out of work for Thursday. So much for just having a cold.

I haven't done much the last few days. I haven't even been on the computer much. My head hurts too bad to look at the screen. I am just praying that Chris and the rest of the family doesn't get this.

I'm Living With A College Student!

As many of you know Chris has been laid off since July. The company he worked for was bought out and everything sounded great. Well not so much. I am very thankful he was laid off when he was. He got laid off 1 week before my father passed away. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have Chris with me for everything we went through during that time.

After being out of school for 20 years Chris got a great opportunity to go to college. His work has a special program and college is paid for through them. Chris looked into it and is now a full time college student. He is taking 2 welding classes, Math and English this semester.

This picture is of welding he has done. One is MIG Welding and the other is TIG Welding. He seems to be enjoying his classes. I am very proud to be living with a college student!!

Snowy Sunday!

Welcome to Snowy Sunday. If you don't have snow but would like to join us by showing your winter decorations please do.

Our pictures this week are of Chautauqua Lake. This is the lake that is closest to where we live. Do you know what those spots are out on the lake?

Lets get a little closer. How about now?

Can you tell yet?

Yep, that's a man sitting on a bucket.

Ice fishing ~ not a sport for me!

Not even like this. This guy is in an Ice Shanty. The outside of it says "Ice Cube". That is what I would feel like if I was out there.

Christmas Afternoon!

We went to Chris's Mom and Dad's house Christmas afternoon to spend some time with the family. As you can see by looking under the tree we get spoiled there also.

This is our niece Alexis with her stocking. Alexis got a lot of great gifts. She is in to a lot of different things.

This is our oldest niece Stephanie and her fiance Nate. Can you tell that Nate liked one of his Christmas presents from us? He opened this hat and put it on right away. Nate works construction, so most days he is outside in the cold.

It is so nice to get everyone together and spend the day with them. Good food, good conversation and Family!!!

Out Our Window!

This is what I saw out of our computer room window when I got home from work.

These pictures were taken through the window. That is why there are wires and part of the roof of a house.

Aren't the colors amazing?

Gone Shoppin'

I took the day off of work today.

Mom and I spent the day in Erie shopping. We always go shopping on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There were still bargains waiting for us even though a lot of stores had already done big mark downs.

Snowy Sunday!

Our pictures today are of Lake Erie. It is about 45 minutes from where we live. Chris had a doctors appointment near by so we stopped and took a few pictures.

These are of the breaker walls in Barcelona Harbor. As kids we used to do a lot of fishing off of these walls.

The harbor had started to freeze over, but not too much on the other side of the walls.

Once the lake freezes over you will see lots of fishermen out there.

BRRRR!!!

When our alarm went off at 6:00 AM this morning it felt colder than normal in the house. We weren't sure what happened overnight, but we knew the electric was on since our alarm went off. I went in to wash my hair and then woke Chris up. We went downstairs to eat something and it was even colder. We knew that it was supposed to get down to 7 below zero last night, but this was crazy. I checked the thermostat and it said 52 degrees in the house. 52 doesn't sound that cold, but it sure was chilly. Chris went down to the basement to check on the furnace (new 2 years ago) and the burners were not lighting. He came up and checked the stove to make sure the gas was working and it was. So he went back downstairs to check it out. As soon as he took the cover off of the burner compartment it lit right up. He figured that the fresh air intake pipe must have been blocked. After taking me to work he came back home and fixed it. We think a critter may have been trying to build a nest in the pipe. He unhooked the pipe from the furnace and used his leaf blower to blow it out, only finding a few small pieces of bedding. It is working fine now and at least was an easy fix. Thank God I have my own Mr. fix it. Who knows how much it would have cost us.

We Were Tagged!

Utah Grammie at Main Street Memories has tagged us.

Here's the "rules" for all to follow:
Open a document or photo folder and choose the fifth folder and then the fifth photo in that folder. Next, post the photo with a description about it and then tag 5 friends to do the same.

This picture is of Chris and his father cutting down a tree in their back yard after it was struck by lightning many years ago. To read more about this click HERE and HERE.

We are going to tag....

Bloomin' Tuesday!

With all of the snow that is coming down in our area we thought these pictures would be a nice thing to look at.

They were taken at my brother and sister in laws this summer.

When mom separated some of her plants she gave them to Kim and Tabatha.

I love the pink against the white.

Someone was hungry while I was taking the pictures.

Snowy Sunday!

We have been getting hit with lake effect snow since Wednesday. We have close to 2 feet of new snow and it is still coming down.

Before it got too bad, Chris and I went for a picture taking adventure.

Some of the areas we went had very little snow, while others already had too much. That's lake effect snow for you. In some areas it was snowing so hard that we couldn't even get pictures.

Christmas Morning!

We meet at Moms house at 8:00 on Christmas morning. This is one tradition that has been the same for many years. We open our stocking first. Santa still comes to moms house for us. We all sit on the floor with our stockings in front of us and just open and leave a pile of paper on the living room floor. Jerzie thinks that is pretty cool.

Then we pass out our presents to each other. As you can see Jerzie got buried with presents from Grandma, Chris and I. She already opened her presents from Mommy and Daddy at home.

We all made out very well. We are all spoiled around this time of year.

Jerzies mommy made a Mets blanket for her Daddy for Christmas this year. I was at a craft show and the lady was selling this small Mets blanket for $2.00 so I had to pick it up for her.

She really got into opening her gifts this year. You should have seen the look on her face when Daddy and Uncle Chris brought her big present from grandma out. She was so excited. I guess everyone else was too because I don't have one picture of her. Grandma got her her own desk and chair. She just loved it.

What'cha Eatin' ?

On Christmas Eve while everyone was eating their dinner Jerzie wanted something to eat also. So she got some cheese and crackers (one of her favorite things to eat).

Mommy also put a couple of M&M's on her plate.

If you look at her cheese and crackers she also had a little surprise. She did this herself. No one helped her do it.

She made a cheese, cracker and M&M sandwich and ate it.
Yummy!
That's a little girl that Loves her chocolate!!

Christmas Gifts!

Now that we have given these gifts and have the time to post about them we wanted to show them to you. While Laurie and Mom were at the Hamburg craft show in the fall Laurie saw this print and knew that it was something that Uncle Bob and Aunt Norma would like. The only problem was that it wasn't framed. Chris took care of that problem.

He made a frame out of 70 year old barn board.

Those of you that read Moms blog know how much she loves different kinds of ferns, so while we were on vacation we took quite a few pictures of ferns while out hiking. We were hoping we would get a good one to blow up for a Christmas gift for Mom. We had this one made into a 16"X20" and Chris made the frame to fit in with Moms decor. It was left pretty natural. All he did was whitewash it so the fresh cut marks didn't show.

Snowy Sunday!

On our last day of vacation this fall we got up in the morning to 30 degree temps in Lake Placid. While driving around to get a few more fall pictures we ran into some snow.

This picture is of the famous Whiteface Mountain. People actually ski down this mountain in the winter. By the time we got here to take pictures it had stopped snowing and only the mountain top was covered.

Here is a close up of Whiteface. Below are some of the other high peaks taken from the Adirondack Loj Road.
