Our 4th Of July!

Can you guess what we did by looking at this picture?
Did I help Chris work on one of the cars?

Nope!
Chris went and got mulch on Friday.
They had just dyed it.
I actually did have gloves on and still ended up like this.

We paid more for our mulch this time than we have ever paid. Chris had them fill his 8 foot bed up. It was piled up to the roof of the truck. When he went to pay they said it was $80.00.

We worked in the yard for 6 hours yesterday.

We haven't had this dark of mulch before, but we really like it.

The green really stands out now.

We love the way the dark mulch makes the plants pop.

We have a little left over so we are going to add more to the gardens today.

We have more yard work we want to get done today too.

Grandma always said you shouldn't trim your bushes until after the 4th, so we have those to do.

After Chris trims those I'm sure he will mow so we can get the little pieces of the bushes cleaned up.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sorry we haven't been by to visit much.

Summer sure is a busy time.

Where Is It?

There have been a lot of nights that we will be out on the deck and we hear a woodpecker loud and clear, but we can't find it any where. The other day while I was opening the door to get some fresh air in the house I saw him.

I believe that he is a Northern Flicker.

He didn't stay around long, but I did get a couple pictures.

Now I know why we can't find him when we hear him. He must blend right into the trees.

We Did It!

The four of us (Me, Chris, Kim and Tabatha) planned a surprise birthday dinner at Alfie's on Saturday Night. I don't know how, but we managed to keep it a secret for almost a month.

Most of the people that were at the surprise party had been into Mom's shop to get their hair done. Thank goodness none of them slipped.

Mom was totally shocked when we walked into the restaurant and there were 30 people there to celebrate her birthday.

It isn't an easy task to hide stuff from Mom. All 4 of us had a difficult time with it, so we tried to stay away from her. Read more about her birthday surprises HERE and HERE.

Thank you to everyone who helped Mom celebrate her 60th birthday.

Happy 60th Birthday!

Today is Mom's (Ms Greenthumb Jean) 60th birthday!

We hope that you have a great day today Mom!

Stop over to Mom's blog and wish her a Happy 60th!

Guest Writer!

There was a young person named Jean
Whose life was a young woman’s scene,
Beauty school was right
And she raised hell at night
Then went to work for a beauty machine.

She was married but the marriage was bad
Except for the kids that she had
They were raised by her nearly
alone, for dad clearly
Was no help and that was quite sad.

So she started her business, with strife,
While trying to build a good life
Her beauty shop grew,
Her clients were true,
The kids aged, took a husband, a wife.

This person named Jean is now old
With opinions she speaks out quite bold
60 today it turns out,
A shame, it’s making her pout!
‘Cause 2 Grand-girls she’s got in the fold.

This old grandma who’s still known as Jean
Has developed a thumb that’s quite green
Her knowledge of plants she imparts
To her daughters, granddaughters hearts
And of gardens she is certainly a queen.

Now an epoch will seldom be seen
In this limerick style, somewhat mean
But in truth I will state
If you look at the slate
You could consider her epoch obscene.

Concluding I must say one thing other,
Your mom said that you could sure smother.
You say "not like her a bit,"
But even you must admit,
Each year you get more like your mother!

Writen in love by your older but younger looking brother!

Bloomin' Tuesday!

The Spider Wort is in full bloom right now, it is so pretty. Here is a close up of the flower for you.

I have three different colors of Dianthus in my rose garden. I was able to get pictures of two of them.

The third one is white and I have a very hard time getting good pictures of white flowers for some reason.

This is my first rose for the season. It smells so good. It is a light lavender color.
