Where Is It?

There have been a lot of nights that we will be out on the deck and we hear a woodpecker loud and clear, but we can't find it any where. The other day while I was opening the door to get some fresh air in the house I saw him.

I believe that he is a Northern Flicker.

He didn't stay around long, but I did get a couple pictures.

Now I know why we can't find him when we hear him. He must blend right into the trees.

The only woodpeckers we get are the Downy. Used to get a bigger one, but haven't seen him in a few years. They love the suet I hang out by the feeders. Great photos!

Love the shot just as he was taking off,... yes, that's a Flicker. Isn't he beautiful!

All three photos are great. The bottom two are my favorite. I like that you were able to capture the little bit of red in his head. I, too, LOVE the one as he is getting ready to fly!
