Saving a Butterfly!

Chris has always loved nature, but since we have had the blog he sure looks at it differently. Sunday when Mom was here, Chris took something out to her car and came back in and said don't mind me, I just need the camera. I looked at mom and she looked at me and Chris went back out the door and disappeared. We couldn't see him from the kitchen. Mom said he is in between the two cars taking pictures of something.

He saw this butterfly. He didn't see anything wrong with it but it wasn't flying away.

So after he took a few pictures...

he put out his finger and the butterfly crawled right on. He put it on one of the plants in the back yard. By this time mom and I came out to see what was going on.

The butterfly looked like it may have just came out of it's chrysalis but we weren't sure.

It kept flapping its wings like it was trying to dry itself.

Chris took it to the back garden to the cone flowers and it was happy. It stayed on the cone flowers for sometime and flew away with a full belly. Chris would have moved the butterfly out of the driveway even if we weren't bloggers, but I'm not sure if he would have come in to get the camera first.

How has our blog changed us? We look at things in a different way now and we really don't go anywhere without our camera. We always have our eyes open to a picture taking opportunity.

I love how he caught the wing beats.

Perhaps it is because I am such and avid photographer but I've learned that sometimes we ought to set aside the camera and simply absorb the moment.

Like today we sat and watched the finch hanging upside down eating from my sunflowers. I wanted to get the camera but thought if I was trying to take a photo, I would miss so much.

I will take a photo next time.

I tried to leave a comment yesterday but it wouldn't take. Hopefully this one does.

Blogging has made me look at things differently too...I just wish I could remember the camera and if I remember it, I wish I had Chris's skills!

Such beautiful shots of the butterfly ...is that a monarch, do you know? If it had just come out of its chrysalis, it's got Chris to thank for saving its life, otherwise it might have gotten run over!! I have my camera with me at all times now...well except if I'm taking a shower! lol Blogging has also made me more aware of what goes on around me, in life and in nature!! xox

What a special thing to get to witness and then capture on camera. Chris' photos are wonderful. I was just showing my pictures to a friend yesterday and telling her how the photos and blogging have made me so much more observant, just as you said. It's one of the things I have particularly enjoyed!
