Well guess what he pulled out?.....
We have no idea how that got into this drain.
It has been covered since we moved in 11 years ago. Chris went to The Home Depot and bought some main line cleaner. He poured a whole gallon down the drain and it seemed to be working.
Chris was in the basement and I ran upstairs to use the bathroom. When I went back down to see if he needed help, the basement floor was covered with water. Those of you that know Chris know that he usually can fix just about anything. When he can't it drives him crazy to have to pay someone else to fix it. I think that runs in his family. So we called both of our parents to see if they could recommend a plumber. We called the one that my mom uses. He told us that it sounded like our main sewer drain was blocked. He was leaving town for a week and told us to just call Roto-Rooter.
We made an appointment for today at 2:00pm and he showed up right around 2:00. He brought a huge electric snake down to the basement and after about 30 minutes the pipe was clear. He said that there were tree roots growing in the sewer drain about 30 feet out from the house. He ran the snake out to about 110 feet from the house to make sure it was clean out to the city sewer. Their work is guaranteed for a year. If it happens again within a year, they will come and clean it again for free.

What a pain! I've heard of this happening and am worried we might be candidates as we have some cranberry and saskatoon trees quite close to the house. I'm glad you got the problem cleared up.
Thanks for tagging me! I'll think about this and hopefully get to it soon.
I think it was those ghosts running around in that music you have playing. They must have put the ball there ;-)
Bummer! The last time we had that probelm, we had 11 people staying with us- we had to have the plumber out there FAST! And it was the week-end so that "little issue" cost us a grundle! Hope you enjoy a year of root-free draining! (what a funny thing to wish someone- that's home ownership for you!)

I came across your blog over Google. Since you recently had Roto-Rooter and your blog is decorated for the holiday, I thought you may be interested in these pumpkin carving tips from Roto-Rooter:

There is nothing worse than plumbing issues! Glad you were able to get it fixed...
I see you found my golf ball! My son (now 20 yrs old), put everything that would fit down the drain!!! Drove my hubby nuts! I bet that house once had a little darling do the same. I know your glad to have all that taken care of. Unhappy sewer pipes make for unhappy homeowners!
