Busy Bees!

Saturday afternoon we decided that we needed to finish the work on our front steps that we never got done last fall. So we flipped the steps over so we could measure everything and get the side boards on.

Sounds easy enough right?

Well not so easy....

You know the great pictures everyone takes of these cute little guys?

Well they aren't so cute!!

They had built a nest in the ground under our steps. One day Mom came and picked me up and I saw a bee go under the steps so I made sure I told Chris. We found out where they were living.

Instead of building the sides for the steps, this is what we did most of the afternoon. No that isn't the hose. It is long shot Bee spray. We were VERY LUCKY that neither one of us got stung. (Chris is allergic so I was really worried about him!)

Look at all the Bee spray on the ground. I ran around the house and found every can that I could find and not one was full. We went to the hardware store and bought 4 more cans and most of that is gone. We probably killed close to 200 bees in two days! Neither one of us got hurt. I just had a small headache because of the spray and my chemical allergies, but it went away once I got inside in the A/C.

On Sunday we got the step sides painted while still killing bees. The nest it covered so we hope they won't return.

The sides of the steps look so much better. Now we have to decide on a railing since it is code in our area. I like the open feel and no one uses the front anyway.

See that little guy still flying around? I don't think he is flying anymore. We just want to say Sorry to all you Bee lovers!!

I will have to tell you about my bees over the weekend too. Must have been the weekend for them.
Will talk with you tomorrow (if you are there).

p.s. The steps look great!

Mark is allergic to bee stings too, so I can understand not wanting them that close to your house. They have been terrible at our house the last couple weeks.

Your new steps look really nice - good job!

Oh dear, I don't blame you for killing off those bees, I would have done the same. Having a nest of them so close to the house was just asking for someone to get stung...not good! Glad the steps were finally able to get worked on...they look great:-) xox
