Got Junk?

This week is spring clean-up on our side of town. We actually have clean-up twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. You can put anything at the curb that weighs less then 40lbs. The city will pick it up.

Do you see anything you would like??

This one caught my attention! I THOUGHT it was a baby cradle. I was going to go and get it after dark, then I took a picture of it out our window and it isn't a baby cradle :( It is a beat up magazine rack.

The best part of clean up is putting something good on the curb and watching to see how long it takes for it to disappear. I will have to say that Chris and I did some 'street shopping' back in the day. (at least we waited until it was dark out)

Congratulations!

Last night Chris, Kim, Tabatha and I all went to a retirement dinner for my fathers wife. There were about 60 people at the dinner. (We didn't know many of them) Sharon had worked there for almost 30 years, but because of her health she had to take an early retirement.

We had salads, Chicken Cordon Bleu and a baked potato.

(The chicken was very good, but way to big for me. It took up the whole plate.)

Then they brought out carrot cake.

We had a good time and are on the good list for a little while with Sharon :)

Childhood!

While looking at pictures in an album, we were surprised to see how many pictures we had from our childhood that were very similar. Here are a few of them.


The two pictures above must have been taken at the same studio. The top one is of Laurie at 2 months old. The bottom one is of Chris at about the same age.

These two pictures are of "big sister" with "baby brother". The top one is Laurie with her "baby brother" Kim. They are 5 years apart. The bottom one is Chris with his "big sister" Lori. They are 2 years apart.

This one cracks Chris up every time he sees it. (yes Laurie does have a fish on her pole) Click on the photo to enlarge. (if you can't see Laurie's fish :) HA HA Laurie was fishing with her dad and brother. Chris was fishing with his dad and grandfather.

We Have A Ceiling!

It only took 3 sheets of 4'x12' Sheetrock to finish the ceiling.

My dad came over for a couple of hours and helped me out today. Lifting the 12' pieces of drywall wasn't something I could do alone.

We got everything cut and in place before he went home. I spent a little while after that putting in the rest of the screws.

I still have to tape and mud the seams. I will wait until I get the walls done so I can do all the finish work at the same time. I will be doing the electrical next. Then I will do the insulation and the rest of the drywall.

Laurie has been home from work for 2 days due to a dental problem. (she took all the pictures today) Hopefully by Monday she can make it back to work. She has a big holiday coming up in the Floral Department.

Grillin' Again!

Because of our kitchen remodel, we have been grillin' a lot of our dinners. Here is one of our favorites.

Potato's and onions (with butter, salt and pepper) in a tinfoil pouch cooked on the grill. I have ate these for years. We used to make them when we went to camp. They have such a great flavor.

We also made shrimp scampi. Our grill has a burner on the side. I don't think we used it at all last year, but we are glad we have it this year.

We grill all year round, but we do it more often in the spring and summer.

We have a super macro option on our digital camera that I have been trying to figure out. Here are a few of the shots I have taken that look pretty good. I like the way it blurs the background and only focuses on the flower.

The above picture and the next two pictures were taken at my brother and sister-in-laws house. Two of them are of their Forsythia.

These are Grape Hyacinths.

I took this in my back garden. It is a violet. It has very dark leaves and it spreads like crazy.

I am not sure of the name of this lily. It was here when we moved in. They have green spotted leaves and it is like the lily is growing with her head turned down.

City Work!

A few people have asked about the garden and what the city has done on our street. We went out and took pictures tonight. This is what our yard still looks like.

Under this plywood is the start of the catch basin they are building. It is a hole about 5x7 feet and 5-6 feet deep. There is also one across the street from us.

As you can see, we still have the beautiful orange and white barricades in our front and side lawn. They don't seem to stay here very long when they work on it.

We are hoping that some of our drainage problem in the yard will be taken care of by the new catch basin.

They have moved up the street quite a ways now. They are crossing back over to the other side to put in another catch basin by the house that is causing all the trouble.
