Too Young!

A couple of weeks ago while we were babysitting, Jerzie decided she was ready to go home. So she picked up HER cell phone to call her Mommy and Daddy.

Then she sent them a text and told them that she was ready to go.
She just didn't understand why Mommy and Daddy didn't call or text her back.

So she tried again. Still no luck. She was stuck at Uncle Chris and Aunt Laurie's until Mommy and Daddy were done bowling.

Tabatha got a new cell phone and since Jerzie liked Mommy and Daddy's cell phones so much, they let her play with the old one. It was so funny watching her play with it. She acted like she knew what she was doing :)

It's About Time!!

This big mess started way back in April and after many phone calls we finally got top soil and grass seed today.

This area is where my garden was.
See the tree in this picture? It was a flowering pink cherry tree. Since the city damaged the roots, we think we have lost it. They said they would replace it but it won't be the same kind of tree. (doesn't seem fair does it?) I guess we shouldn't complain. At least they are replacing it.

This area used to have a small orange blossom bush. We lost that also. We can't wait to see if we get grass or not before winter. They say it isn't too late to plant it. We will keep a close eye on it and see what happens. We should have a nice green lawn next spring :)

Shy Dove !

We have been trying to take a picture of this dove all summer long.

Every time we thought we could get a good shot it would move,
start to fly away or...

turn its head.

We finally got a good shot of it. We have at least two that keep coming around. They are such pretty birds.

Hard To Believe!

When we planted these Sedum in the new garden we had no idea how fast they would grow. They have almost doubled in size in the past 2 months.

We have had Sedum in other gardens but didn't remember any of them growing like these.

Some of the clusters of flowers are 6-8" across.

We love the colors and detail of the tiny flowers.

We can't wait to see what they do next year when the have the whole season to grow.

Green Thumb Sunday!

Click on pictures to enlarge (if you dare)

What a surprise I got while walking through the gardens this week. I didn't remember planting any of these. I didn't even know that you could grow them. Of course I had the camera with me and had to take some pictures after I finished laughing. I wonder if they came with the new mulch? Who knows?

Have a good GTS!

Homemade Soup! Guess What That Means?

It means we are both feeling a little under the weather. We don't want to blame anyone, but we babysat Baby J. last Saturday. She was sick on Monday and we both started feeling sick on Tuesday. Poor Baby J. gets blamed every time someone is sick. We will be spending the day on the couch just relaxing.

Chicken Noodle Soup (the noodles aren't in there yet).

Vegetable Beef Soup. (just for Chris)

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Garage Sale!

Mom and I went to a garage sale a couple of weeks ago and she forgot to post about what she bought until Wednesday. Well guess what? I forgot to post what I bought also. Click HERE to see what mom bought.

I thought this would be a really neat planter. It was marked $10.00. When I went to get it, the guy that was taking the money said how would you like tomorrows prices? It's close enough to tomorrow. I got it for $7.00.

Check out the detail. I think it is a stand for a glass table top.
I measured it when I brought it home so I could find a pot for it. It is a 15 inch circle and it is only 8 inches deep. The first pot that I brought home I hated so it went back to the store.

Then I found this pot. I love the shape and color. It is a little too small around.

So I had to ask Chris to rig something up for me so that it didn't look funny. After we get it rigged and a plant put in it I will take some more photos. Chris thinks he should take it to work to sand blast it and put powder coat on it to make it look new. I think it should stay the way it is.

What do you think?

How Bad!

I got a phone call from my sister in law last night. (Lori)

Lori.. Are you busy right now?

Me.. No why what's up.

Lori.. Do you mind if we come over so you can look at your nieces hair?

Me.. Why?

Lori.. She cut it today.

Me.. How bad?

Lori.. Bad!!

So as I waited I thought the worst. I thought I was going to have to cut all of her hair off. That wasn't the case. She cut it, but it wasn't that bad. I straightened it out and told Lori that I thought she could just put it up or put it in a barrette and it would be OK.

My brother and I never cut our hair. We would tell mom what we wanted and that is what we got. I couldn't tell you how many times Kim had mom shave the number 33 or the New York Mets in his hair.
Did you or your kids cut their hair when they were little?
Here she is playing detective. Her mom gave her clues and she had to find that item in the room. The clues were red hair, teddy bear and chair. It didn't take her long to spot a doll holding a teddy bear sitting in a chair.

The next one really made her think. The clues were Red, White, Blue and Aunt Laurie.

I was wearing an old navy flag T-shirt. Alexis did get it but it took a little longer than the first one. She made sure she wrote her Uncle Chris a note. I hung it on the bathroom mirror so he would get it before he went to bed. The note said "I Love You Uncle Chris, Alexis"

Our nieces are just getting way too big way too fast!

I'm Going To Get You!

This video was taken on Saturday night while we babysat Baby J. Her Mommy and Daddy started bowling. They are on a mixed couples league that bowls every other Saturday night. So we watch (play with) Baby J. for a couple of hours while they are out.

No babies were hurt during the filming of this video. LOL!

6 Years!

We can't believe it has been 6 years since that horrible day! We have not forgotten the pain and suffering of all the people involved or those whose lives were changed forever that day.

Empty Truck?

Well the truck was empty for one day. It finally got cool enough for us to go out and work in the garage. We've needed to get out there and clean it for a while, so last Sunday in between spraying bees and painting the sides of our steps we cleaned out the garage. A lot of the junk is from the kitchen remodel.

Chris went to the dump this week during the day, so I wasn't able to go with and take the camera along. So no interesting pictures from the dump this week :) He was taking the truck to be inspected today, so it had to be empty. I really don't know what we used to do when we didn't have a truck. We really use it a lot.

These are some pictures that we took a few weeks ago. We aren't sure what they are but we think they are some kind of Sunflower. We were thinking maybe a Morning Sun or Lodden Gold. If anyone knows for sure please let us know.

Enjoy your GTS!

Jury Duty!!

A couple of weeks ago I got a summons for city court jury duty. I had already done State jury duty a few years ago. When you get the letter you don't have much of a choice. If you click on the writing below you can read it better.

I called on the 5th at 6:00 PM and got a message that said Jurors for MAY 3rd are to report for jury Duty. I hung up and called back. I thought I had heard her wrong, no I heard her right. So I texted Chris and told him and asked him what I should do. In the mean time I called every phone number on the paper work no luck. Chris said to try the non-emergency police line, so I did. The police Sargent said they should have changed the message and he didn't know what to tell me. No one would be back until 8:00AM. Well my problem is that I go into work at 7:00AM and if I don't have jury duty I would be considered late. We have a new absenteeism policy and it would count against me. So I got up at 5:00 AM and left for work at 6:30.

I called at 8:00AM and found out that I had to report. This is where I spent my after noon. I left work a little after 8:00 to come home and change. Off I went to City Hall. There were 10 cases to be seen by the judge (who just happened to be Chris's lawyer). They came in and gave us updates all morning on how many settled out of court or to a plea bargain. At 12:00 they said there were only 2 cases left and they said that they would like for us to wait to take lunch to see if these 2 would settle. At 12:40 all 30 of us were called into the court chambers and were thanked by the judge for our time and told that we could all go and that we wouldn't be called again for 6 years!!

Thank goodness we were allowed to bring books and magazines with us. Even though we were really only there a little over 3 hours, it seemed like forever.

Busy Bees!

Saturday afternoon we decided that we needed to finish the work on our front steps that we never got done last fall. So we flipped the steps over so we could measure everything and get the side boards on.

Sounds easy enough right?

Well not so easy....

You know the great pictures everyone takes of these cute little guys?

Well they aren't so cute!!

They had built a nest in the ground under our steps. One day Mom came and picked me up and I saw a bee go under the steps so I made sure I told Chris. We found out where they were living.

Instead of building the sides for the steps, this is what we did most of the afternoon. No that isn't the hose. It is long shot Bee spray. We were VERY LUCKY that neither one of us got stung. (Chris is allergic so I was really worried about him!)

Look at all the Bee spray on the ground. I ran around the house and found every can that I could find and not one was full. We went to the hardware store and bought 4 more cans and most of that is gone. We probably killed close to 200 bees in two days! Neither one of us got hurt. I just had a small headache because of the spray and my chemical allergies, but it went away once I got inside in the A/C.

On Sunday we got the step sides painted while still killing bees. The nest it covered so we hope they won't return.

The sides of the steps look so much better. Now we have to decide on a railing since it is code in our area. I like the open feel and no one uses the front anyway.

See that little guy still flying around? I don't think he is flying anymore. We just want to say Sorry to all you Bee lovers!!
