Watery Wednesday!

Here are some pictures from our trip to Buttermilk Falls.
Buttermilk Falls is one of the most visited waterfalls in the Adirondacks. It is a short but beautiful falls (only 20 feet tall) that is reached by an extremely short, flat walk.

We thought this picture would give you an idea of the size of the rocks. Keep in mind that Chris is 6' tall.

Here is a short video we took. The sound from this short falls is extraordinary.

The last 2 pictures were taken just above the falls on the Raquette River.

Bloomin' Tuesday!

Chris took these pictures in the Adirondacks. We thought that the Coleus was so pretty against the fall trees.

We haven't planted Coleus before, but after seeing it we may have to give it a try.

Don't you just love the bright green?

West Branch Ausable River!

This is one of our favorite places to stop every year when we go to the Adirondacks. We found this spot by accident the first year we were in the Adirondacks. It is so calming just sitting on the big rocks and watching the water flow.

We had a visitor this time when we stopped. We aren't sure what kind of bird it is, but when it starts to fly it sure has a large wing span.

Chris was trying something new on the camera. It turned out pretty cool in this picture. I love how it looks like the water is running.

There are many fishermen that stop at this spot. It is really neat to watch them in there waders up to their waist fly fishing.

You should hear what it sounds like. It is amazing the sound that this river makes. This is still day number one of our vacation, so there are still a lot more photos for us to show you.

Oh Boy!

We have been having some drain issues since we got back from our vacations. Chris was doing laundry (Yes my husband does laundry!!) and our main drain in the basement started backing up. Chris worked on it to see what was blocking it. After using his shop vacuum, a hammer and screw driver he swore that there were tree roots.

Well guess what he pulled out?.....

Yes a golf ball!!

We have no idea how that got into this drain.

It has been covered since we moved in 11 years ago. Chris went to The Home Depot and bought some main line cleaner. He poured a whole gallon down the drain and it seemed to be working.

Until yesterday!!!

Chris was in the basement and I ran upstairs to use the bathroom. When I went back down to see if he needed help, the basement floor was covered with water. Those of you that know Chris know that he usually can fix just about anything. When he can't it drives him crazy to have to pay someone else to fix it. I think that runs in his family. So we called both of our parents to see if they could recommend a plumber. We called the one that my mom uses. He told us that it sounded like our main sewer drain was blocked. He was leaving town for a week and told us to just call Roto-Rooter.

We made an appointment for today at 2:00pm and he showed up right around 2:00. He brought a huge electric snake down to the basement and after about 30 minutes the pipe was clear. He said that there were tree roots growing in the sewer drain about 30 feet out from the house. He ran the snake out to about 110 feet from the house to make sure it was clean out to the city sewer. Their work is guaranteed for a year. If it happens again within a year, they will come and clean it again for free.

Bloomin' Tuesday!

The Mums that I planted last year have finally started blooming.

I am a little disappointed because I planted seven different pots last fall and only two came back up this year.

They bloomed just in time to get a little bit of frost on them.

Tagged!

Ann over at A Mothers Minute has tagged me!
Seven Random or Weird things about me!

Let's see what I can come up with!

1. I don't go anywhere without a camera.
2. I hate to drive. I would rather have my husband drive. I'm a looker. I want to see the view.
3. I use a Neti-Pot every night before I go to bed.
4. I haven't ever seen any of the Star Wars movies, and don't plan to.
5. I don't like Diet Pepsi from a can. I only like it from a bottle.
6. I can't stand it when my routine gets screwed up.
7. I love NASCAR. It's not just a sport, it's an obsession.

Anyone else want to play along?

I'll tag:

Darla at Family and Flowers
Crystal at Be the Change You Want to See
Laurie at Charming Designs
Beckie at Dragonfly Corner
Utah Grammie at Main Street Memories

Vacation - Morning Hike!

We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning on Monday. We drove around for a little bit while trying to decide what to do for the day. We came across this pretty pond and pulled over to take some pictures.
We both decided that today would be a perfect day for a hike. We headed to the Peninsula Nature Trails. We had hiked there before and really enjoyed it.

This is where the trail begins.

The first trail we hiked was the lake shore trail. It is only 0.8 miles, but the views of Lake Placid are amazing.

We stopped (after some picture taking) for a picnic lunch and enjoyed the quiet view for a while.

Here we are waiting for the timer to go off.

Laurie saw these mushrooms on one of the trees. They were the same kind that her Dad used to draw on. Click HERE if you missed that post. When she held the camera up to take the pictures, the sun poked through the tree tops and made the rainbow in the picture. She said "Dad's here".

As we started to hike again after lunch, we heard a loud creaking sound followed by the sound of tree branches breaking. We were both looking for an animal running at us. No animals, just this huge pine tree. It wasn't windy or anything, but it just fell over about 50 yards behind us.

Luckily, it fell in the other direction because we didn't realize what happened until the ground shook. Both of our hearts were racing at this point. We took the 1.3 mile ridge trail back out and tried to relax a little.

More vacation posts to follow.

Lake Placid!

A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.

Bloomin' Tuesday!

We took these pictures on our Adirondack vacation. They were taken at our favorite lake (Mirror Lake) in down town Lake Placid.

I love the way the fence looks in the background of the pictures.
If you look close in the sky of this picture you can see the moon. The funny thing about being in the mountains for us is that we saw the moon during the day and hardly ever saw it at night. Forget getting pictures at sunset. It seems as though the sun drops so fast that you don't have time to get pictures.

This one is my favorite.
